Ukrainian air defense neutralized 80 enemy drones overnight

On the night of January 22, 2026, Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine. The strike began on the evening of January 21 around 18:00 and continued throughout the night. This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.

In total, the enemy used 94 strike UAVs, including Shahed drones, “Gerbera” drones, and other modifications. Of these, about 55 were Shaheds.

Launches were recorded from multiple locations within Russia — including Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk — as well as from temporarily occupied Crimea (Chauda and Hvardiyske areas).

The Ukrainian defense response involved a combination of forces: aviation, surface-to-air missile troops, electronic warfare units, UAV units, and mobile fire teams. The coordinated effort allowed Ukrainian forces to intercept the incoming wave quickly.

As of 09:00 on January 22, 80 enemy UAVs were confirmed destroyed or suppressed. Some were shot down with kinetic weapons, while others were neutralized through electronic warfare, preventing them from completing their strike missions.
