Air defense forces shot down 279 Russian drones during a massive nighttime attack
On the night of May 17, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down and neutralized 279 enemy drones out of 287 launched by Russian military units. Russian troops carried out attacks from various directions, including Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, using Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas strike drones, as well as Parody decoy drones.
This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Air Force.
The air attack in the north, south, and east of the country was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare and unmanned systems units of the Defense Forces.
Despite the successful downing of most aerial targets, eight attack drones were recorded striking seven different locations during the night raid, and debris was found in seven additional locations. As of the morning, new groups of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles were detected in the country’s airspace, prompting the military command to urge citizens to strictly observe safety rules and remain in shelters.
On the night of May 17, a number of Russian military-industrial complex and energy facilities were struck in Moscow and the Moscow region. Strikes were carried out on an oil depot in Durikino, an oil refinery in Kapotnya, the Angstrom microelectronics plant, and the Raduga Design Bureau, which develops cruise missiles.
On the morning of May 16, Moscow also came under attack by drones, causing airports in the Russian capital to temporarily suspend operations.
Throughout May 15 and into the night of May 16, Ukrainian defense forces carried out a series of precision strikes on key Russian military infrastructure targets, inflicting damage both on Russian territory and in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories where the enemy concentrates its equipment, ammunition, and personnel.
