Russian propaganda spreads misinformation about control over Kupiansk

Russian propaganda has once again taken up the topic of “full control” over Kupiansk, claiming that Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) allegedly suffered heavy losses.

The Center for Countering Disinformation has refuted these reports, emphasizing that they have no basis.

In reality, the situation in Kupiansk remains difficult, but most of the city is under the control of Ukraine’s defense forces, and the enemy has failed to infiltrate SRGs.

Russian propaganda has been spreading disinformation about the supposed full capture of Kupiansk and the alleged encirclement of 15 Ukrainian Defense Forces battalions in the city since early December, but these claims were denied by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On December 3, Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian forces had significantly improved their tactical position directly in Kupiansk, enemy SRG infiltration routes are fully blocked, and Ukrainian forces are working to gradually push the occupiers out of the bridgehead north of the city and from other areas where the enemy still tries to maintain a presence.

“In fact, most of Kupiansk is under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and fighting continues in the city. No Ukrainian units are encircled,” the Center for Countering Disinformation assured.

The Center once again urges trusting only verified sources of information. Ukrainian forces are consistently working to improve their tactical positions and are counterattacking the occupiers.

Recall that on December 1, the 11th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces categorically refuted the Russian Ministry of Defense’s information claiming the supposed occupation of the settlement of Klynove in Donetsk Oblast.
