Putin has increased the FSO's staff for the fourth time since the start of the war
Vladimir Putin has decided to increase the size of the central administration of the Federal Security Service (FSO). The corresponding decree is set to take effect on July 1.
According to the draft document, the number of civil servants in the FSO’s central administration will increase from 785 to 812. This is the fourth expansion of the service’s staff since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine and the first in the last 13 years that is not taking place at the beginning or end of the year.
Prior to the start of the full-scale invasion, as of early 2022, 725 people were employed in the FSO’s central administration.
The Federal Security Service is responsible for the security of Russia’s highest-ranking officials, including the president, the prime minister, and their family members. According to the Financial Times, the service has recently significantly stepped up security measures around Putin due to fears of possible assassination attempts, particularly involving drones or during coup attempts.
