The UN Security Council will convene a meeting to discuss Russia's attacks on Ukraine

Today, April 20, the UN Security Council will hold a special meeting to discuss the Russian Federation’s systematic attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

Official Kyiv initiated consideration of this issue following a series of combined shelling attacks that resulted in significant casualties and destruction in Dnipro, Kyiv, and other regions of the country.

A diplomatic request to convene the Security Council was submitted by the Ukrainian side following a large-scale attack on April 14, when the aggressor employed a wide range of missile systems and drones.

This initiative was officially supported by a number of countries, including Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, Liberia, and the United Kingdom.

The meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m. local time in New York (10:00 p.m. Kyiv time). The main topic will be the intensification of Russia’s aerial terror, which directly threatens Ukraine’s civilian population and energy stability.

Key reports during the meeting will be presented by senior officials of the United Nations.

Speeches are expected from Mohamed Khaled Chiari, Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, as well as Joyce Msui, who serves as Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

Overnight, Russians attacked Ukraine with 142 drones

As a reminder, on April 19, Russian troops carried out more than 20 shelling attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region, using artillery and strike drones.

On April 19, Russian occupation forces carried out another attack on civilian infrastructure in Kherson, using an unmanned aerial vehicle.
