Missile strike on Kyiv; up to 9 people may be trapped under the rubble of a high-rise building

A high-rise residential building was damaged as a result of a Russian missile strike on the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. According to preliminary reports, up to nine people may be trapped under the rubble; the search and rescue operation is ongoing.

The head of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that rescuers are working under conditions of heightened danger, as the possibility of a follow-up strike on the site cannot be ruled out. Despite the threat, emergency services continue to clear the rubble and search for people who may still be trapped beneath the building’s debris.

He noted that rescuers had been preparing for the strike; prior to the attack, all rescue units were deployed from their permanent bases. Heavy engineering equipment is operating at the site of the attack in the Darnytskyi district, and the search for people trapped under the rubble continues.

“We understand that there are still people under the rubble. Of course, we hope until the very end that someone is still alive, but we understand that there are definitely casualties here as well. As for the number of people (under the rubble—ed.), we estimate that there could be up to nine people here,” Danik added.

The head of the State Emergency Service also noted that the Russians “may launch a second strike,” so the work will continue without interruption. In total, about 600 rescue workers are on the scene in Kyiv.

As of today, two people are known to have died as a result of the strike on a high-rise building in Darnytsia.

“One missile struck this building (ed.), but there are a great many craters here. It really feels as though there was a massive missile strike, causing destruction throughout the entire neighborhood,” he said.

Additionally, another missile landed 400 meters from the high-rise building that was struck; it has been handed over to experts.

This was stated by Andriy Danik, head of the State Emergency Service.

The death toll from the Russian strike in Kyiv has risen.

As a result of the massive Russian attack on the night of July 2, public transportation routes in Kyiv have been altered. This was caused by damage to the overhead power lines, a lack of electricity, and cleanup efforts following the enemy shelling.

As a result of the massive shelling of Kyiv by Russia on the night of July 2, a fire broke out in the building of the O. V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The research institution noted that no one was injured as a result of this emergency.
