A jet-powered Shahed drone can fly over Kyiv in three minutes
The jet-powered drones that Russia is using to attack Ukraine are capable of crossing Kyiv from one end to the other in about three minutes.
This was reported by Andriy Tkachov, acting head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. According to him, the speed of such drones can reach 400–650 km/h, while conventional “Shaheds” reach speeds of about 150–250 km/h.
The jet-powered variants are equipped with a turbojet engine instead of a conventional piston engine. Due to their significantly higher speed, their performance characteristics are similar to those of cruise missiles.
Such drones are more difficult to detect and shoot down. Short-range anti-aircraft missile systems and fighter aircraft can be used to intercept them.
