Russia has stepped up its assaults in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
Russian troops continue to attack Ukrainian positions with small infantry groups along the border between the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, but they have not achieved any significant success and are suffering casualties.
According to Demchenko, the number of assault operations in the Vovchansk direction in the Kharkiv region has decreased somewhat recently, but Russian forces continue to periodically attempt to attack the positions of Ukrainian border guards.
“Within the Kharkiv region, attempts at direct assaults on positions held by border guard units in the Vovchansk direction have decreased somewhat recently. However, there are still periodic attempts by enemy infantry groups to attack our positions,” Demchenko noted.
The State Border Guard Service spokesperson reported that in the Shostka district of the Sumy region, specifically in the direction of the Esmanska community, Russian troops are also deploying small infantry groups.
According to him, such attacks are intended to test the possibility of expanding the zone of control along the state border, but all these attempts have been repelled.
“Within the Sumy region, specifically in the Shostka district, in the direction of the Esmanska community, the enemy also periodically deploys its infantry to attack our positions. But this is more of a probing effort to see if the enemy can expand its zone of control along the state border. However, these groups were eliminated by border guard units both within the Kharkiv region and within the Sumy region,” Demchenko emphasized.
According to the State Border Guard Service, the occupiers have not ceased their assault operations in the Kharkiv sector, attempting to expand their zone of control within the Vilkhuvatska community.
At the same time, according to Demchenko, the enemy has not achieved any significant successes, and Ukrainian defenders continue to effectively repel its offensive actions.
The State Border Guard Service spokesperson noted that Russian troops are primarily operating in small infantry groups, using ATVs and motorcycles for rapid movement, particularly in the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector.
In addition, the occupiers sometimes transport assault units to the front lines using armored vehicles, after which the infantry attempts to launch an offensive.
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, reported this during a televised marathon.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on July 31 that, despite the difficult situation in certain sectors of the front, Russian troops have failed to seize the strategic initiative. According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to repel the occupiers’ offensive operations and are carrying out their combat missions.
In the morning, Russian troops launched a strike using “Gerbera”-type drones on the village of Masheve in the Semenivska community on the border of Chernihiv Oblast. Four civilians were injured as a result of the attack.
