Russia and North Korea have announced cooperation on fake news

TASS, the state news agency of the aggressor country, and the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement that provides for the exchange of information and delegations. The heads of the media organizations announced that their primary focus will be on countering fake news through international projects. 

According to TASS Director Andrei Kondrashov, Russia and North Korea are currently targets of an unprecedented information war, which requires joint efforts to refute false reports.

Kim Byong-ho, head of the North Korean agency, emphasized that cooperation between TASS and KCNA contributes to strengthening the strategic partnership and friendship between the peoples of both countries. He noted that both organizations play an important political role in fostering the development of interstate relations. Cooperation has intensified following the reopening of the TASS bureau in Pyongyang late last year, which had been closed in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions.

The signed document formalizes the parties’ intention to coordinate information policy and create joint content. Both agencies plan to actively cover events within the framework of their governments’ official positions, framing this as a struggle for truth amid global confrontation. Currently, Russia and North Korea continue to deepen their integration in various spheres, including the media space.

As a reminder, Russian propaganda is using the war in Iran to derail negotiations on Ukraine.

Russian propagandists are also fabricating a "counteroffensive" by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to cover up their own defeats.

The Kremlin-linked disinformation network “Matryoshka” has launched a large-scale campaign on the social media platform X, exploiting the conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran to attack Kyiv’s allies.
