Russia is redeploying its forces for new assaults in the Kharkiv direction
Russian troops are preparing new offensive operations in the Kharkiv region, regrouping their units along a number of critical sections of the front line.
As Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation, reported on March 22, 2026, during a televised broadcast, the most tense situation is observed in the Kupiansk, Velykoburlutsk, and Borovsk directions. Despite significant losses in personnel and equipment over the past few days, the occupiers are not reducing their activity and are attempting to regain their lost momentum.
Currently, Ukrainian defense forces are observing the enemy preparing for new assault attempts following a series of failed attacks. The Russian Federation’s increased activity in the Kharkiv region is occurring in parallel with a large-scale offensive against the “belt of fortresses” in the Donetsk region, indicating the enemy’s intent to stretch Ukrainian reserves along the entire line of contact. Against the backdrop of geopolitical instability caused by the conflict surrounding Iran and new U.S. ultimatums, the situation on Ukraine’s eastern flank remains one of the key challenges for international security.
As a reminder, ISW analysts note that Russian forces have likely launched a spring-summer offensive against the Ukrainian belt of fortresses in Donetsk Oblast.
On March 21, Ukrainian defense forces killed and wounded 940 Russian occupiers; the enemy’s total war losses now stand at 1,287,880 personnel.
Over the night and morning of March 22, 2026, Ukrainian defense forces neutralized 127 attack drones out of 139 deployed by the enemy.
