The Leningrad region of the Russian Federation has announced the recruitment of reservists to defend against drones

Alexander Drozdov, Governor of the Leningrad Region, announced an emergency reinforcement of the region’s airspace defenses against drone attacks.

According to him, the region is considered a “frontline region,” so a decision has been made to create additional mobile fire teams in addition to those already in place.

Reservists are expected to be recruited for these units, and they will be offered three-year contracts through the regional military commissariat.

The new units are tasked with protecting critical infrastructure and reinforcing air defense forces, specifically the 6th Guards Army of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces and other military units in the region.

The decision was made following a meeting of the regional operational headquarters attended by law enforcement agencies and representatives of strategic facilities.

According to Drozdov, since the beginning of the year, air defense forces have reportedly shot down more than 240 drones over the region.

In the Russian city of Tuapse in the Krasnodar Krai, explosions were heard on the night of April 16 amid a drone attack. The strikes may have targeted tanks at the Tuapse Oil Refinery, which is owned by Rosneft.

As a reminder, on the morning of April 15, Ukrainian “Lyuty” strike drones attacked a petrochemical plant in the city of Sterlitamak, located in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation.
