Russia aims to seize all of Ukraine, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces are systematically depleting its capabilities, — Syrskyi
Russian troops have not abandoned their plans to advance and intend to seize not only the Donbas but the entire territory of Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to systematically undermine the enemy’s ability to wage war.
This was stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi following a meeting with members of the newly established ARES (Allied Reform and Expert Support) Military Expert Council.
According to him, during a conversation with the council’s chairman, General Sir Richard Shirreff, and Lieutenant General Pavel Matsko, he briefed the partners on the operational situation at the front, as well as on the use of new tactics and types of weaponry.
Syrskyi emphasized that the Russian army continues its offensive operations, but Ukrainian forces are systematically striking at its capabilities.
“The enemy has not ceased its attempts to advance and intends to capture not only Donbas but all of Ukraine. In response, we are systematically weakening its ability to wage war—we are purposefully destroying its resources, logistics, and military potential, thwarting the enemy’s plans time and again,” noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, he emphasized that one should not expect the enemy’s resources to be quickly exhausted, as its military potential remains significant.
Total combat losses of Russian troops since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as of April 22, 2026, amount to approximately 1,321,450 personnel. In the past 24 hours alone, losses totaled another 1,140 soldiers.
Over the past day, 194 combat engagements took place on the front lines. The Russian army concentrated most of its attacks on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka sectors. The occupiers are actively using aircraft, drones, and artillery.
