Russia has doubled its attacks on the ports of Odessa and Chornomorsk
The intensity of Russian attacks on port infrastructure in the Odesa region has increased significantly in 2026 compared to last year.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery Oleksiy Kuleba, as of March 22, more than 180 strikes have been recorded since the beginning of the year, while there were about 150 in all of 2025. The enemy is increasingly resorting to massive attacks using large numbers of drones, attempting to undermine Ukraine’s export potential and global food security.
The latest major incident occurred on the night of March 20, when enemy drones damaged two civilian vessels flying the flags of Palau and Barbados, which were loaded with grain at the docks. Despite damage to administrative buildings and equipment, the vessels remained afloat, and two injured crew members received the necessary medical assistance. To counter the threat, Ukraine is increasing the number of mobile fire teams and UAV interceptor crews, which has already boosted the effectiveness of shooting down enemy targets by 25–35%.
