Russia fired a record 28 ballistic missiles at Kyiv
During the massive attack on Kyiv on the night of July 2, Russian forces launched a record number of ballistic missiles. This type of weapon remains the greatest challenge for Ukraine’s air defense today, as only American Patriot systems are capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
According to Ignat, the nighttime strike was one of the largest attacks on Kyiv since the start of the full-scale war.
“Russia launched 28 ballistic missiles,” he said.
During the attack, the occupiers used:
- “Iskander-M” ballistic missiles;
- “Zircon” hypersonic missiles;
- S-400 anti-aircraft missiles, which the Russian army uses to strike ground targets.
Yuriy Ignat emphasized that ballistic missiles pose the greatest threat, as they can only be intercepted by Patriot systems.
At the same time, Ukraine’s air defense is demonstrating high success rates against other types of targets: the interception rate for cruise missiles is nearly 100%, and for attack drones, over 90%.
On the night of July 2, Russia launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine, with Kyiv as its primary target.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy deployed 570 air attack assets, including:
- 496 attack drones;
- 74 missiles of various types, including air-, ground-, and sea-based variants.
As a result of the attack, civilian infrastructure in seven districts of Kyiv suffered extensive damage. Residential buildings, critical infrastructure facilities, and other civilian structures were damaged, and rescue operations are ongoing at some locations.
This was reported by Yuriy Ignat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, during a televised marathon.
In the Ukrainian capital, efforts are continuing to address the aftermath of the massive nighttime attack on July 2, during which Russian forces struck residential neighborhoods and infrastructure facilities.
