Russia has announced the start of three-day exercises focused on “the preparation and use of nuclear forces in the event of a threat of aggression,” which could be the largest in the country’s modern history in terms of the scale of forces involved.
This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The exercises will take place from May 19 to 21. They will include the launch of ballistic and cruise missiles at testing ranges within Russia.
According to official data, the maneuvers involve over 64,000 military personnel, more than 7,800 pieces of weaponry and equipment, over 200 missile launchers, more than 140 aircraft, 73 ships, and 13 submarines.
The Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets, long-range aviation, as well as forces from the Leningrad and Central Military Districts are participating in the exercises.
Separately, on the eve of the exercises, training of units in the use of nuclear weapons began in Belarus. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, they are practicing the joint use of nuclear weapons deployed on the country’s territory.
