Russia launched a drone attack on a market in Kherson: one woman was killed and six people were wounded
On the morning of July 17, Russian troops launched an attack using an FPV drone on a market in the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 70-year-old local woman was killed in the attack, and six other civilians were injured. According to preliminary reports, the strike hit people who had come to the market to buy groceries.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported on Facebook that at around 9:30 a.m., Russian forces struck the city market in Kherson with a drone, where many civilians were present at the time. A 70-year-old woman from the city sustained fatal injuries as a result of the strike.
In addition, a 65-year-old man was among the first to be taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to the head and torso. Later, it was reported that five more people had been injured. Among them were a 48-year-old man and four women aged 71, 73, 75, and 85. All were diagnosed with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds and are receiving the necessary medical care.
Under the procedural guidance of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the commission of a war crime that resulted in a fatality. The case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Prosecutors, together with police investigators, are documenting the consequences of the attack and gathering evidence of yet another war crime committed by the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that Kherson remains one of the cities that Russian troops attack almost daily with artillery and drones. The occupiers particularly often use FPV drones to strike civilian infrastructure, transportation, and crowded areas. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, in the de-occupied part of the Kherson region alone, law enforcement agencies have registered more than 5,300 criminal cases related to drone attacks on civilian targets. As a result of these attacks, 287 civilians were killed, and another 2,549 people were injured; of these, 127 deaths and 1,754 injuries occurred directly in Kherson.
