Russia attacked Kyiv with Shahid rockets from an unusual direction
On the night of July 28, Russian forces launched a combined attack on the Ukrainian capital. Kyiv was first struck by “Shahed”-type attack drones, after which a threat of ballistic missile strikes was announced. A series of explosions rocked the city, and air defense forces engaged the aerial targets.
The Air Force warned of approaching enemy drones—jet-powered UAVs were heading toward Kyiv from the south. Monitoring channels reported that the drones were flying low over the city.
“They’re approaching Kyiv—watch out! They’re flying very low; it’s going to be loud,” the monitors wrote.
Soon, explosions rang out in the capital, and air defense systems were active in the sky above the city. The drone attack was compounded by a ballistic missile threat—this time from the direction of Bryansk. “Explosions are heard in Kyiv amid the drone attack and the ballistic missile threat,” the Air Force reported.
According to updated information, several jet-powered drones were used against Kyiv—all of them flew in from the Donetsk direction.

As a reminder, Russia carried out 57 attacks along the front line, with the heaviest fighting occurring in three sectors.
