Russia may equip Shahed drones with electronic warfare systems to counter Ukrainian interceptor drones

Russian forces have likely begun equipping select Shahed-type drones with electronic warfare (EW) systems to counter Ukrainian interceptor drones.

This was reported by Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, on Facebook.

According to him, there are “reasonable suspicions” that some Russian drones are being equipped with EW systems to:

  • suppress Ukrainian interceptor drones;
  • interfering with the operation of radars and radar systems.

Beskrestnov noted that such an upgrade of the drones did not come as a surprise to the Ukrainian side.

“There are reasonable suspicions that some ‘Shaheds’ are equipped with electronic warfare systems to suppress our interceptor drones and to jam radar systems,” he wrote.

The advisor to the Minister of Defense also emphasized that it is important to monitor the situation even before the facts are officially confirmed.

“There is nothing unexpected here for us, but it is important to keep the entire situation under control even before the facts are confirmed,” Beskrestnov emphasized.

He urged military personnel and specialists to report any unclear or unusual situations related to Russian Shahed drones.

On the night of May 15, Russian troops carried out a massive attack with strike drones on the southern part of the Odesa region. The shelling damaged residential and port infrastructure, and there are casualties.

On May 15, a Russian drone attacked the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Literary and Memorial Museum in the Kharkiv region. The strike damaged the protective shelter of the site, which is under UNESCO protection.

As a reminder, 27 exhibits from the Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum were restored in the Kharkiv region.

We have also previously reported that archaeological excavations in the ancient Roman city of Ossonoba in southern Portugal led to a fascinating discovery—the uncovering of three Roman tombs dating to the 5th or 6th century AD.

Earlier, just a stone’s throw from Tutankhamun’s tomb, archaeologists unearthed the pyramid of an unknown ancient Egyptian queen, as well as a cache containing coffins, mummies, and artifacts.
