Russia has begun installing anti-drone nets on its nuclear submarines following attacks by Ukraine

Following attacks by Ukrainian drones, the Russian Navy is stepping up security at its strategic facilities. Anti-drone nets are now being installed even over the nuclear submarines of the Russian Pacific Fleet.

This is reported by the maritime portal Naval News.

New satellite images show that the Russians have installed special protective structures over the Borei-class submarines based in Rybachy, Kamchatka.

These are nuclear submarines capable of carrying up to 16 Bulava ballistic missiles. Within NATO, this class of submarines is known as the “Dolgoruky” class.

The Rybachy base is one of the key strategic facilities of the Russian Pacific Fleet and is located approximately 7,400 kilometers from Ukraine.

According to analysts, similar protective nets have previously been observed:

  • above submarines of the Black Sea Fleet;
  • at bases of the Baltic and Northern Fleets;
  • over individual Russian surface ships in the Black Sea.

Typically, such structures were installed only over the submarine’s conning tower to protect the main hatch. However, as seen in satellite photos, the net now completely covers the entire submarine.

Analysts believe that these measures are the Russian Federation’s response to successful attacks by Ukrainian drones and fears of a repeat of large-scale operations against Russian military infrastructure.

Units of the Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with the Deep Strike Center, delivered a series of precision strikes on enemy positions. During the operation, a Beriev Be-200 Altair aircraft, a Kamov Ka-27 helicopter, a Tor-M2 air defense missile system, a Pantsir-S1 air defense missile and gun system, as well as a ship carrying ammunition were destroyed.

Operators from the 1st Separate Center struck a Be-200 “Altair” amphibious aircraft and a Ka-27 helicopter in the city of Yeysk, Russian Federation. Additionally, unit personnel struck a Pantsir-S1 air defense system in the temporarily occupied Crimea and a dry cargo ship carrying ammunition in Berdyansk.

Operators of the 427th Separate Brigade “Rarog” struck a Tor-M2 air defense system in the Luhansk region.

Meanwhile, fighters from the 414th "Madjar Birds" Brigade, together with the 20th K-2 Brigade, struck an enemy training center and temporary deployment site in the Luhansk region.
