Russia Condemns European Peacekeeper Proposal for Ukraine

Russia has rejected a plan discussed in Paris that would see European peacekeepers deployed to Ukraine after a ceasefire, calling the proposal “militaristic” and warning that such forces would be treated as legitimate military targets.

The response came after the French president and the UK prime minister signed a declaration of intent with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlining a framework for the deployment of their troops once a ceasefire with Russia is reached.

In its first official reaction, Russia’s Foreign Ministry described the proposal as dangerous and destructive, casting doubt on its potential to help end the war. Moscow accused European leaders and Kyiv of forming what it called an “axis of war”.

Russian officials reiterated that any foreign units or facilities linked to such a mission would be considered legitimate targets for Russian forces. Moscow has repeatedly warned that it will not accept NATO member states sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine.
