Russia attacks Kherson Thermal Power Plant for second consecutive day

Russian forces have attacked the Kherson Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP) with drones for the second day in a row. The facility has sustained additional damage, but due to the ongoing threat of further strikes, it is currently impossible to fully assess the situation. Energy workers and authorities are making every effort to ensure residents are not left without heating. This was reported by Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

According to Koretskyi, the latest attack caused further damage to the facility. The strike represents another blow to critical infrastructure that is vital for city residents, particularly amid cold weather conditions.

Specialists are currently unable to fully evaluate the extent of the destruction. The reason is the constant risk of renewed attacks, which complicates the work of repair crews and limits access to the site.

“There is additional damage. Due to the constant threat of repeated attacks, it is currently impossible to fully assess the scale of destruction,” Koretskyi stated.

The Kherson CHPP is a key element of the city’s energy infrastructure. It supplies heat to residential buildings, hospitals, schools, and other essential facilities. For this reason, such attacks pose a serious threat to normal life in the city, especially during the winter period.

Despite the difficult situation, energy workers, together with local authorities and the government, are working to preserve heat supply and minimize the consequences of the strikes.

“Together with local authorities and the government, we are doing everything possible to ensure people have heat under the current conditions,” the head of Naftogaz said.
