Russia is deploying new Geran-5 jet drones capable of speeds up to 600 km/h

Russian occupation forces have begun using a new version of attack drones—the "Geran-5"—which, in terms of performance, are comparable to cruise missiles and significantly surpass the capabilities of previous models.

This was reported by military journalist Andriy Tsaplienko.

According to military analysts, including journalist Andriy Tsaplienko, the new drone has a number of significant differences:

  • speed — up to 600 km/h (several times faster than the “Shahed”);
  • warhead — approximately 90 kg of explosives;
  • flight range — up to 1,000 km;
  • jet engine instead of a piston engine.

Experts note that the design of the “Geran-5” makes it closer to a budget-friendly cruise missile than to a classic kamikaze drone.

Due to the high speed of such vehicles, mobile fire groups equipped with machine guns have significantly lower chances of engaging them. This forces Ukrainian air defense to use more expensive interception systems.

Analysts believe that the use of the Geran-5 may have two objectives: to test the vulnerabilities of Ukrainian air defense and to deplete anti-aircraft missile stocks.

It is also reported that both Western and Asian components have been identified in the design, specifically foreign-made microchips and electronic modules.

In addition to drones, Russian troops have begun using the new ground-based robotic complex “Chelnok,” which was initially positioned as an engineering vehicle but is now being used as a logistics transport.

The report also mentions an operation by special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, who in April 2026 disabled the “Slavianin” railway ferry, which was used to supply Russian troops in Crimea.

As a reminder, Ukrainian troops spotted the Russian all-terrain ground robotic complex “Chelnok” in the Kharkiv combat zone.
