Russians speak of a Ukrainian counteroffensive: what the Defence Forces say

Russian propagandists on social media are spreading distorted maps of the fighting, attempting to present isolated infiltration actions as the capture of Ukrainian settlements.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defence Forces. He emphasised that comparing Russian maps with the official data of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reveals significant discrepancies.

In particular, Russian sources claim an almost complete advance towards Pokrovske in Dnipropetrovsk region, although the actual situation does not confirm this. Voloshyn explained that these were merely isolated enemy infiltration attempts that lasted several hours and were eliminated by Ukrainian forces. As an example, he cited Ternuvate, where Russian units were located at least 10–15 kilometres from the front line.

The spokesperson added that the Southern Defence Forces have published videos showing the elimination of enemy groups in the Ternuvate area. He stressed that Ukraine conducts daily reconnaissance and search operations as well as clearing actions, but that “from a military point of view, these actions do not constitute a counteroffensive.”

The situation on the eastern front remains tense: Russian occupying forces have managed to advance near three settlements in Donetsk region.

On 7 February, Russian troops exerted the greatest pressure on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions.
