The information about his funeral may have been fabricated, and journalists managed to speak by phone with a man who identified himself as the general.
During the conversation, the caller confirmed his first and middle names but refused to answer questions about his own funeral. Instead, he began asking which media outlet the journalists were calling from, and after a few clarifications, he asked them not to write anything about him and ended the call.
Reports of Yerusalimov’s death emerged following an explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant, where, according to Russian media, high-ranking military officials may have been present. The basis for these reports was a post in a chat group for one of Moscow’s districts featuring a photo of a funeral wreath and information about a farewell ceremony for the general.
However, journalists noted a number of suspicious details. The account from which the funeral announcement was posted was created only recently, whereas the general’s daughter’s actual profile has existed for several years. Furthermore, official records show that his tax identification number remains active, whereas in cases of confirmed deaths of Russian military personnel, such records are typically updated. This has led to speculation that the story about the funeral may have been deliberate disinformation.
