The Russian company Kalashnikov has developed multi-projectile rounds designed to shoot down drones
The Russian defense conglomerate Kalashnikov has announced the completion of testing on new 5.45-mm "multi-round" ammunition designed to combat Ukrainian FPV drones.
The occupiers are attempting to adapt standard small arms to shoot down maneuverable aerial targets, which have become a real nightmare for Russian infantry on the front lines.
The tests were conducted using the standard AK-12 assault rifle. According to the exercise scenario, the shooters fired at both drones hovering motionless in the air and drones simulating a direct attack on positions.
The developers claim that this type of ammunition allows for a significant increase in fire density.
The new round works by using “bullet segments” that break apart upon impact.
According to the Russians’ design, these fragments are intended to damage critical UAV components: engines, batteries, and electronic circuit boards, leading to immediate loss of control and the crash of the aircraft.
An important feature of this new development is its full compatibility with a standard 30-round magazine.
The ammunition’s dimensions are identical to those of a standard 5.45×39 mm cartridge, eliminating the need for the invaders to modify the design of their assault rifles or use additional equipment.
As a reminder, the Russian State Duma has approved the issuance of automatic weapons to private security firms.
Additionally, U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) suggests that the satellite launched by Russia last week is a weapon capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit.
