Russian propaganda is spreading AI-generated fakes featuring “military personnel”
Russian propaganda is actively using artificial intelligence to create fake video addresses that pose as statements by military personnel.
The Centre for Countering Disinformation reported the spread of such videos on social media, in which characters emotionally complain about a lack of food and equipment, while also speculating about power outages.
The aim of these manipulations is to create a narrative about the “futility of resistance” and to demoralise Ukrainian society.
According to analysts, the use of synthesised voices and a personal, direct-to-camera format makes these fakes particularly dangerous, as they are able to reach a wide audience with relatively limited resources.
Ukrainian intelligence confirms that this is part of a targeted Russian information attack, which includes discrediting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and spreading false news through bot networks on social media. Such actions can undermine morale and represent another stage of the information war.
It should be recalled that another disinformation campaign aimed at reducing support for Ukraine and Ukrainians has been recorded in Poland’s information space.
Russians continue to fabricate a fake story about a Ukrainian drone attack on Putin’s residence.
The German government has stated that it shares Ukraine’s concerns regarding Russia’s claims of an alleged drone “attack” on the Russian president’s residence, which Moscow could use as a pretext for further escalation.
The Kremlin is already attempting to reconcile inconsistencies in its statements about the alleged “attack” by Ukrainian drones on Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod Oblast earlier this week.
