Rubio called Russia's proposals in Anchorage unacceptable for Ukraine
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the approach proposed by the Russian side last year in Anchorage had failed because it was unacceptable to Ukraine. He made these remarks during a press briefing in Manila, where he held a meeting with Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of the Russian Federation—the aggressor state.
According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing “European Pravda,” Rubio was asked about the relevance of the Russian proposals, which they call “3 + 2” and associate with the division of territories.
“The proposals that have been reported—they call it ‘3 + 2,’ the division of territories—these attempts have failed. After all, a peace agreement cannot be concluded unless both sides agree to it, and the Ukrainians did not agree to it. That is why these efforts have not yielded results,” the U.S. Secretary of State stated.
According to Rubio, new proposals and ideas must be sought, since the previous option was unacceptable to Ukraine at the time and, in his view, remains unacceptable now. He added that the U.S. is ready to propose new ideas and concepts “under the appropriate conditions and in the appropriate form.”
During his meeting with Lavrov, Rubio also discussed the need to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. In addition, he stated that he estimates Russian military casualties in the war in Ukraine at 5,000–6,000 dead and wounded each week.
