SBU detains defence plant employee for leaking classified data on Ukrainian missiles

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement officers have detained a 56-year-old employee of a strategic defence enterprise who was passing information on tests of the latest weaponry to Russian intelligence services.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The suspect focused on collecting data on operational-tactical missile systems and foreign armoured vehicles.

The detainee worked in a restricted, classified unit of the plant, which gave him access to state secrets. He voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the enemy after being contacted by representatives of Russian intelligence services via a messaging app.

The informant provided detailed reports on the results of tests of foreign tanks and artillery shells.

Handlers from the Russian Federation paid particular attention to one of the operational-tactical missile systems crucial to Ukraine’s defence capability.

The suspect recorded precise coordinates of testing locations and reported on the actual production volumes of weapons at the enterprise.

To transmit intelligence data and photographic materials, he used several anonymous social media accounts.

“During searches, computer equipment, mobile phones and electronic storage devices containing defence-related technical documentation were seized,” law enforcement officials stated.

Based on the collected materials, the suspect has been formally notified of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law. The court has already imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.

Under the procedural supervision of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

Investigators are also examining the possible involvement of other individuals in the leak of classified information from the defence facility.

Separately, the prosecutor’s office is seeking to recover UAH 14 million from the developer of the “Nordica Residence” residential complex.

It is worth noting that the prosecutor’s office will appeal against a lenient preventive measure for SBU officials.

Additionally, prosecutors have blocked a scheme involving the sale of fake law enforcement identification documents.
