The SBU foiled the GRU's plans to assassinate Ukrainian officers in Kyiv

Law enforcement officials uncovered and detained a dangerous spy ring that, acting on orders from Russian military intelligence, was planning a series of contract killings in the capital.

The victims of these terrorist acts were to be commanders of the Defense Forces and prominent public figures.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the network’s activities were coordinated by a career officer of the Russian GRU.

He not only identified the targets but also assembled a specialized team of “executors,” which included:

  • the head of a private security firm;
  • an active law enforcement officer (who provided data from classified databases);
  • a former convict;
  • a female logistics specialist responsible for transportation.

The criminals devised a cynical cover-up scheme: to move freely around the city and quickly flee crime scenes, they used vehicles with flashing lights, posing as a security service.

The agents obtained weapons and ammunition through a network of pre-prepared caches in the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions. In addition to firearms, the group planned to use explosives, planting them under the vehicles of potential victims.

The arrest took place immediately during preparations to eliminate the commander of one of the volunteer formations in Kyiv.

During searches of the suspects’ premises, an arsenal of weapons, communication devices, and other evidence of their collaboration with the enemy were seized.

The Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine detained another agent of the Russian GRU in Rivne.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian agent in the Kharkiv region who was gathering data for missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian military positions in the Kupiansk direction.

In addition, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a Russian agent who, under the guise of fulfilling defense contracts, was coordinating airstrikes on Kyiv.

Prior to this, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an enemy agent in Zaporizhzhia who was attempting to infiltrate a strategic enterprise within the defense-industrial complex.

As a reminder, an SBU employee was detained while receiving a $68,000 bribe.

The SBU also exposed seven enemy agitators in five regions of Ukraine.
