Sibiga responded to Tokayev's call and stated the need to increase pressure on Russia
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga responded to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s call to end the war, stating that Russia must face greater pressure to agree to realistic peace proposals.
“We appreciate President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s appeal to Putin that it is time to stop the war. It is a realistic, timely, and wise appeal,” Sibiga noted.
According to him, Ukraine has already proposed ceasing hostilities along the current front line and moving toward a diplomatic settlement, but the Kremlin continues to reject this path to peace. The minister also noted that the Russian president’s spokesperson has already rejected Tokayev’s proposal.
“The bottom line is this: Moscow must feel greater pressure before it agrees to realistic proposals for peace,” Sibiga emphasized.
The Ukrainian foreign minister wrote about this on July 26 on the social media platform X.
As a reminder, during a face-to-face meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed suspending hostilities in Ukraine and returning to the negotiation process based on the 2022 Istanbul agreements.
