Sibiga claimed that Russia had attacked Kyiv immediately after Trump’s envoys left
On September 8, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv immediately after the U.S. president’s special envoys left the Ukrainian capital. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga highlighted this coincidence in timing.
Sybiga stressed that Russian ballistic missiles speak louder than Putin’s words about diplomacy, and that strike after strike on residential buildings is nothing more than senseless terror.
“As soon as the U.S. president’s peace envoys left the city, Putin launched yet another large-scale and horrific attack on Kyiv, damaging residential areas and killing at least two people,” Sibiga wrote.
He urged Ukraine’s partners not to delay in saving the lives of Ukrainians.
“Every interceptor provided to Ukraine right now saves a life. The missiles in storage, including those nearing their expiration dates, must be used to defend Ukrainian airspace,” the minister wrote.
The foreign minister also called for following Germany’s example and closing all “Russian houses” in Europe.
“We cannot allow Russian networks of influence to continue operating as long as Russia refuses to end its war of aggression. We call on our allies to act and increase pressure on the aggressor. Pressure on Moscow facilitates diplomacy—it does not hinder it. Greater pressure brings peace closer,” Sibiga concluded.
“We’re seeing good results in shooting down cruise missiles, but it’s not easy with ballistic missiles,” Zelenskyy said.
On September 8, Russian troops struck the Kyiv–Sumy train with two “Shahed” missiles. The train had been stopped in advance, and passengers and crew members were evacuated following a warning from the “Ukrzaliznytsia” monitoring team.
As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region due to the Russian attack.
Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and wounding civilians.
Later, rescue workers showed the aftermath of the strikes on Kyiv.
