Defense forces regain full control of central Kupiansk – video
Units of the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartiya,” together with the tactical group “Kupiansk,” successfully completed an operation to liberate the city, carried out under the overall command of the 2nd Corps of the NGU.
During a rapid assault, the reconnaissance-strike group (R.U.G.) of the 4th Battalion expelled Russian occupation forces from key administrative buildings and secured the heart of the city. Bodycam footage released shows decisive moments of the battle for the city hall and the raising of the Ukrainian flag, marking the failure of Russia’s attempts to hold this strategically important railway hub.
Colonel Ihor Obolensky, commander of the 2nd Corps of the NGU, emphasized that the success of the Kupiansk operation was made possible by the “Khartiya” method, which relies on detailed planning, highly trained staff, and thorough preparation of personnel. Effective coordination of artillery, drones, and assault groups not only stopped the advance of superior Russian forces but completely destroyed the enemy garrison in the central part of the city. Ukrainian defenders are now finishing the clearance of the outskirts and conducting stabilization measures to prevent sabotage by remnants of the defeated occupier units.
Liberating central Kupiansk is a major victory, as the city remains a logistical key to the entire left-bank Kharkiv region. Despite constant shelling and Russian counterattack attempts, the “Khartiya” forces continue to hold their positions and strengthen defensive lines. Military command notes that the experience gained from this operation will be applied to further liberation of Ukrainian territory and demonstrates the advantage of Ukrainian tactical methods over the enemy’s massed assaults.
