Slavutych left without electricity after overnight shelling

On the night of 24 January, the city of Slavutych in Kyiv region was completely left without electricity as a result of Russian shelling. Power supply is being gradually restored, with scheduled outages introduced. The city’s critical infrastructure has switched to backup power, while hot meals and resilience centres have been organised for residents. This was reported by the Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, on Telegram following an energy coordination meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.

“I paid special attention to the situation in Slavutych. As a result of an enemy attack, the city was completely de-energised. Power supply is currently being restored, and outage schedules have been introduced. Critical infrastructure has been transferred to backup power,” Kalashnyk wrote.

He also noted that the region is placing particular emphasis on supporting residents. “A total of 495 resilience centres have been deployed across the region, with an additional 11 tents operated by the State Emergency Service. In Fastiv, Brovary, Boryspil, Vasylkiv, Vyshneve, Bucha, Irpin and Borodianka, 19 railway ‘resilience carriages’ are operating, with more to be launched later in Bila Tserkva,” Kalashnyk added.

Mobile kitchens and food trucks are providing hot meals for residents. “In Irpin, a Ukrzaliznytsia kitchen train is operating; in Brovary, a charitable food truck ‘Iskra Dobra’ is working, along with local kitchens. Thanks to these efforts, we provide hot meals to around 25,000 people every day,” the regional head emphasised.

Following Russia’s overnight large-scale attack on Ukraine, more than 1.2 million consumers were left without electricity in Kyiv and Chernihiv.

Emergency power outages have been introduced in several regions of Ukraine due to the difficult situation in the energy system caused by the consequences of Russian strikes.

In Kyiv, as a result of the overnight large-scale Russian attack on 24 January, around 6,000 buildings were left without heat supply.

In the capital, operations on the green line of the metro have been altered following the overnight shelling. In addition, the funicular is temporarily not operating due to the lack of electricity.
