U.S. preparing new sanctions against Russia if Kremlin rejects peace deal

Washington may impose a new sanctions package targeting Russia’s energy sector if the Kremlin refuses the proposed peace plan to end the war against Ukraine.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with discussions within the U.S. administration.

According to the sources, the U.S. government is considering several forms of economic pressure, including restrictions on vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet” that Russia uses to transport oil while circumventing existing sanctions. Measures may also target international traders who facilitate or provide logistics for such operations.

The plans were discussed earlier this week during a meeting between U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and European ambassadors in Washington. According to sources, the sanctions package could be announced in the coming days.

However, the final decision rests with U.S. President Donald Trump, who is coordinating the American position in the peace negotiations process.

Earlier, Trump announced a planned address to the nation. He also stated that Putin does not seek peace and aims to fully occupy Ukraine.
