A Russian court reinstated the mayor of Ufa, who had been caught taking bribes
The Supreme Court of Bashkortostan overturned the city council’s decision to terminate his contract early and reinstated Ratmir Mavliev as head of the Ufa administration effective July 15. The official was detained in April 2026 on charges of abuse of power and accepting bribes, but the preventive measure was later reduced to a restriction on certain activities. Mavliev himself denies the charges and called the city council’s decision to dismiss him an attempt to discredit him.
Despite the court ruling, Mavliev will not be able to resume his duties at this time due to existing court restrictions and the ongoing investigation. According to investigators, the official is implicated in the illegal transfer of land belonging to a municipal health resort—valued at 13.2 million rubles—out of municipal ownership, the acceptance of a 10 million ruble bribe from a developer, and the use of public funds to purchase a luxury car for personal use.
