Tanker Flora 1 continues sailing after oil spill
The Swedish Coast Guard has released the Russian oil tanker Flora 1, which had earlier been detained on suspicion of an oil spill near the island of Gotland. Two crew members were notified of suspicion, but they were not detained, and investigative measures are limited due to jurisdiction, Reuters reports.
The tanker Flora 1 was detained the previous day off the southern coast of Sweden. The vessel had departed from the Russian port of Primorsk, and its destination remained unknown. During the inspection, Swedish prosecutors questioned the crew, and two individuals were notified of suspicion of committing environmental crimes. “Neither of them was detained,” the agency clarified.
Representatives of the prosecution explained that the spill occurred within Sweden’s economic zone, so their powers are limited. “We conducted the interrogations deemed necessary and will not take any coercive measures,” the statement said.
The tanker is now continuing on its course, while Swedish environmentalists are monitoring the potential consequences of the oil spill. The incident highlights the difficulty of controlling vessels of the shadow fleet, especially when they operate in international waters with unclear destinations.
Russian forces also attacked Nikopol with FPV drones. As a result of the strike, five people were killed and another 19 were injured, including a 14-year-old girl.
On the night of April 4, Russia attacked Ukraine with nearly three hundred drones. Air defense forces neutralized 260 of them. At the same time, hits and falling debris were recorded in several regions.
In the Kherson region, one person was killed and another 25 were injured over the past day due to Russian attacks. Kherson and dozens of settlements in the region were under fire.
