Terekhov warned of a new level of threat to Kharkiv posed by FPV drones

Terekhov warned of a new level of threat to Kharkiv posed by FPV drones

In July, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv 109 times, 51 of which were carried out using FPV drones. City authorities, in collaboration with the military and the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, are working to strengthen defenses against such attacks.

This was reported by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. According to him, 45 FPV drone strikes that detonated were recorded in July, along with six additional drones that did not explode. On average, every second attack on the city was carried out by the enemy using FPV drones.

According to the mayor, in just one week, more than half of the enemy drones were directed specifically at transportation and fuel facilities.

“This is a fundamentally different level of threat. These drones fly low, can be controlled via fiber-optic cables, appear suddenly, and target more than just stationary objects. They attack civilian vehicles while they’re moving—trucks, grain trucks, and vehicles delivering water to people. They strike gas stations and fuel pumps—places where people are always likely to be nearby,” Terekhov warned.

He added that the city, together with the military and regional authorities, is working to counter such attacks. At the same time, there is currently no universal protection against FPV drones: anti-drone nets can be effective only in certain cases and do not protect against jet-powered drones, missiles, or guided bombs.

According to Terekhov, municipal utilities are also manufacturing and installing some of the necessary structures and protective elements.

Terekhov wrote about this on Telegram.

As a reminder, on the morning of August 2, Russian troops attacked the suburbs of Kharkiv with drones. One of the drones struck a postal terminal, causing a fire.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops shelled Kharkiv and 19 other settlements in the region. Ten people were injured in the attacks, including three minors.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 954 strikes on 54 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. One person was killed and another was wounded as a result of the shelling.

On the night of August 2, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 133 strike and decoy drones of various types. Air defense forces shot down 109 enemy drones, but strikes were recorded at 19 locations.
