The Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully launched a counterattack near Sloviansk and halted the Russian Federation’s advance — ISW
On August 1 and 2, Russian forces continued their offensive operations in the Sloviansk sector but were unable to achieve any confirmed advances due to successful counterattacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This is stated in a new report by the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dated August 2.
According to analysts, the Ukrainian military was able to halt the Russian offensive attempts. In particular, a Russian military blogger reported a Ukrainian counterattack near Rai-Oleksandrivka, east of Sloviansk.
The ISW also noted that Russian troops are increasingly using guided aerial bombs in an effort to prepare the ground for future offensive operations in the Sloviansk area.
Vadym Lyakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, confirmed that on the morning of August 2, Russian forces struck the city with a FAB-250 guided aerial bomb.
In addition, according to the ISW, on August 1 and 2, the Russian army continued offensive operations on the Kostiantynivka tactical front as well, but also failed to achieve any confirmed successes.
At the same time, some Russian military bloggers claimed that the occupying forces were allegedly advancing south and southeast of Vasyutynske, as well as north of Pershomarivka. The ISW emphasized that there is no confirmation of these claims.
Analysts also note that Russian troops continue to rely on guided airstrikes to destroy buildings and create conditions for sabotage and assault groups to infiltrate, with the aim of subsequently advancing into Kostiantynivka.
According to the ISW, an officer from one of the Ukrainian special operations units reported that Russian troops continue to infiltrate the city, where they are hiding in basements and destroyed buildings while awaiting reinforcements.
