Trehubov debunks Putin’s claim of “20 km to Sumy”

Trehubov debunks Putin’s claim of “20 km to Sumy”

Statements by Vladimir Putin claiming that Russian troops are allegedly just 20 kilometres from the city of Sumy do not correspond to reality and represent a manipulation of geographical facts. In reality, the Russian army has not advanced deeper into Ukrainian territory and controls only its own territory on the other side of the border. This was stated by Viktor Trehubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Grouping, during a broadcast on Ranok.LIVE.

Trehubov explained that the distance from the Russian border to Sumy is approximately 25 kilometres, a figure that has remained unchanged since 1991. “Putin’s statement merely means that the Russian army controls its own territory and has not moved closer to Sumy,” he noted.

The only minor incursion by Russian forces in Sumy region has been recorded near the village of Hrabovske, where the occupiers advanced about one kilometre into Ukrainian territory. This did not in any way alter the distance to the regional centre. “The Russian border has always been closer to Sumy than the distance from Hrabovske to Sumy,” Trehubov clarified.
