Major Anton Yarmolenko of the State Emergency Service was killed in Dnipro during a second Russian strike
Anton Yarmolenko, deputy chief of the fire and rescue unit and a major in the Civil Protection Service, was killed during a massive nighttime attack by Russian forces on Dnipro. The tragedy occurred as the rescuer was heading to the scene to address the aftermath of enemy shelling.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Russian occupiers launched a second strike on the city just as emergency services were moving toward the sites of previous hits.
Anton Yarmolenko was on duty and responding to a call when another strike occurred. The injuries he sustained were fatal.
The State Emergency Service expressed its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer, who fulfilled his duty until the very end.
“Among the victims of the shelling is our rescuer—Deputy Chief of the Fire and Rescue Unit, Major Anton Yarmolenko. At the moment of the strike, he was on his way to a call,” the agency reported.
The agency emphasized that Anton Yarmolenko died while saving others and paid tribute to his courage and self-sacrifice.
The nighttime attack on Dnipro resulted in extensive damage and casualties. Russian troops once again employed the tactic of repeated strikes on locations where rescue workers and other emergency services are already operating, significantly increasing the risks for those responding to the aftermath of the shelling.
