The Kremlin has acknowledged the impossibility of fully protecting oil ports from drone attacks

In Russia, officials have stated that they cannot guarantee complete security for oil ports and other critical infrastructure against drone strikes.

This has been reported by Russian media.

The Russian president’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, noted that efforts to strengthen protection are ongoing; however, “it is impossible to secure such facilities 100%.” He also threatened retaliatory measures if it is confirmed that EU countries are allowing their airspace to be used for strikes on north-western Russia.

The comment comes amid a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region, which has been struck several times over the past week and temporarily suspended operations. Together with the port in Primorsk, these facilities account for a significant share of Russia’s oil exports via the Baltic Sea.

Ukrainian drones have been crossing Belarusian territory during attacks on Russia.

Units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out a strike on the Kirishi oil refinery in the city of Kirishi, Leningrad region, on the night of 26 March.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully delivered a strike on a strategically important fuel and energy infrastructure facility of the Russian Federation. The target was the Bashneft — Ufaneftekhim oil refinery located in the city of Ufa, approximately 1,400 kilometres from the Ukrainian state border.
