The Kremlin announced a pause in the trilateral talks on Ukraine due to the U.S. being busy
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian dictator, stated that the negotiation process has been suspended for the time being, as U.S. officials are focused on other issues.
According to Russian media reports citing Ushakov, despite the stalemate in official talks, Moscow continues to maintain contact with Washington, during which Ukrainian issues are discussed first and foremost. Ushakov noted that the Kremlin is also monitoring the active communication between the American side and the Ukrainian leadership.
Russia has effectively blamed the U.S. for the halt in the peace process, claiming that key negotiators have shifted their attention to other matters. At the same time, the Kremlin did not specify exactly which issue was being referred to, although the White House had previously stated that resolving the conflict with Iran was a priority. Ushakov emphasized that the process of communication is ongoing, but there are currently no concrete results or timelines for the resumption of full-scale negotiations.
On Wednesday, April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held strategically important talks with key representatives of the U.S. administration—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Senator Lindsey Graham also joined the discussion. The main topic of the meeting was Ukraine’s initiative for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays, as well as the development of updated security guarantee mechanisms.
As a reminder, the Kremlin has already rejected the idea of an Easter truce.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some of Ukraine’s partners had asked to reduce strikes on Russia’s oil sector following the global energy crisis. He emphasized that Ukraine is acting not simply to strike, but in response to attacks.
