Rumors are circulating in Crimea about a Ukrainian Armed Forces airborne landing
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russians spread rumors about an alleged Ukrainian amphibious landing being prepared on the peninsula’s coast. Vladislav Seleznyov, a former spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, explained that such reports could be part of an information campaign and an attempt to destabilize the situation.
“It’s complete nonsense, because we don’t have the resources to carry out such an operation,” he emphasized.
However, as Seleznyov noted, many security officials and collaborators in the temporarily occupied Crimea are evacuating their families and loved ones from the peninsula. They say this is temporary, until “the security situation is stabilized.”
“There is no question of evacuating entire units from Crimea at this time,” the colonel noted.
He added that rumors are creating a negative information environment for the occupiers amid serious problems on the peninsula.
“There are quite prolonged power outages there. The fuel situation only began to improve last week; before that, it was a real crisis. There were problems with the timely delivery of food. But there was no talk of protest sentiment, because taking to the streets to protest literally means death—it’s absolutely unrealistic,” Seleznyov said.
The former spokesperson for the General Staff did not deny that successful strikes on Crimea could be an effective argument that would force Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to agree to Ukraine’s peace initiatives.
He noted that there is currently concern on the peninsula about the coming fall and winter, as many power generation facilities have been significantly damaged, and further strikes cannot be ruled out even after their restoration.
