A Russian agent who was planning attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia was detained in Lviv

The SBU detained an unemployed resident of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in Lviv who had been recruited by Russian intelligence services to gather information on potential targets. The agent photographed Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, government buildings, and military sites in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions, and was also tasked with painting provocative graffiti on buildings to recruit new agents.

As the investigation revealed, the tasks assigned by Russian intelligence officers were carried out by an unemployed man from the Dnipropetrovsk region whom they had recruited.

It was established that the suspect worked for two handlers from the Russian Federation simultaneously. Following instructions from one of them, the agent was to gather intelligence to prepare strikes against railway infrastructure and administrative buildings of state and military institutions in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions.

To carry out these tasks in the western region, he traveled to Lviv, where he used his phone camera to record the exterior perimeters of potential targets, marked their geolocations on Google Maps, and reported back to a Russian intelligence officer. On the orders of another handler from Russia, the agent purchased a spray can of black paint to paint provocative graffiti on the walls of buildings in Lviv.

In these inscriptions, the suspect was supposed to include a link to a specially created chatbot that Russian intelligence officers use to recruit people with the promise of “easy” money.

SBU officers detained the agent as he was once again attempting to photograph the targets. During searches, investigators seized a cell phone from the detainee containing evidence of intelligence gathering and contacts with the enemy.

SBU investigators notified the agent that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The suspect is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As a reminder, in the Rivne region, an FSB agent coordinated Russian strikes and planned the assassinations of military personnel.

In addition, in the Kharkiv region, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained a Russian agent who was assisting the occupiers with the registration of Starlink terminals. According to the investigation, he registered at least 27 satellite communication terminals for representatives of the Russian Federation.

The SBU and the National Police uncovered 12 schemes to evade mobilization in eight regions.

In Volyn, the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) uncovered tax evasion totaling nearly ₴28 million in the flower business.

In Kyiv, a scheme to evade mobilization involving a former official was uncovered.
