The Air Force reported that 72% of the drones were destroyed during a nighttime attack by Russia
On the night of August 9, Russian troops launched a massive combined attack on the Odesa region. For the strike, the occupiers used 11 missiles of various types, up to 100 drones, and “Banderole” loitering munitions.
According to military sources, most of the missiles followed a ballistic trajectory toward their targets. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed one missile, while three others failed to reach their targets. Their impact locations are currently being determined.
In addition, Russia launched up to 100 UAVs of various types toward the Odesa region, including jet-powered drones and “Banderol” loitering munitions.
Air defense forces shot down 72% of the drones, as well as five out of six “Banderole” drones and one missile.
At the same time, Russian missiles and attack drones were recorded striking nine locations in Odesa and the surrounding region.
Yuriy Ignat, head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command, stated that repelling such massive combined attacks is extremely difficult.
According to him, Russian forces are employing various tactical maneuvers and taking weather conditions into account. Simultaneous strikes involving various types of missiles—including ballistic missiles—as well as drones, jet-powered drones, and “Banderole” munitions pose a particular challenge.

As a reminder, at least 49 people were injured as a result of Russian attacks on Odesa and Kharkiv on the night of and morning of August 9. One fatality has also been confirmed in one of the cities.
On the night of August 9, Russian forces carried out a combined attack on Odesa using strike drones and ballistic missiles, resulting in at least six people being wounded.
