A massive fire broke out at an oil refinery in Tyumen following a drone attack

A major fire broke out in Tyumen, Russia, at the Antipinsky Oil Refinery—the largest privately owned refinery in the Russian Federation. According to eyewitness reports, a series of explosions was heard at the facility before the fire broke out.

Following the incident, a massive column of fire and thick black smoke rose above the industrial facility, visible for dozens of kilometers.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out at a large processing unit used for oil refining. The official cause of the fire has not yet been reported.

Emergency services are on the scene, and information regarding possible casualties is being verified.

The Antipinsky Oil Refinery is one of the key enterprises in Russia’s oil refining industry and the country’s largest private refinery.

Key characteristics of the facility include:

  • a design capacity exceeding 9 million tons of oil per year;
  • the refining depth reached 98%, which is one of the highest rates in the Russian Federation;
  • the plant produces gasoline, Euro-5 standard diesel fuel, and other high-quality petroleum products.

The Antipinsky Refinery plays a vital role in supplying the domestic market with fuel and meeting the logistical needs of the Russian economy.

Damage to or a prolonged shutdown of key production facilities could lead to a reduction in petroleum product output, additional strain on other refineries, and an increase in wholesale fuel prices.

Experts also note that repairs to high-tech equipment at Russian oil refineries are significantly complicated by sanctions and a shortage of imported components.

Russian authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the fire and the extent of the damage at the facility.

No official statements regarding the causes of the explosions or the potential impact of the incident on the plant’s operations have been released yet.

On the night of June 6, Russia again came under a massive drone attack. In the Krasnodar region, a fire broke out at an oil depot following the explosions, and in the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, reports indicate a strike on the port area.

On the night of June 5, attack drones struck a number of targets in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In Luhansk, a massive fire broke out at an oil depot following the attack; explosions and strikes were also reported in the areas of Donetsk, Vuhlehirsk, and Mariupol.

On June 3 and during the night of June 4, Ukrainian defense forces struck a number of key military targets belonging to the Russian aggressor.
