Ukraine is initiating emergency procedures at UNESCO in response to the Russian attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
During a massive nighttime shelling of Kyiv, Russian occupation forces struck the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra—one of the largest Christian shrines and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As a result of the enemy attack, a massive fire broke out on the roof of the Assumption Cathedral, engulfing an area of approximately 800 square meters.
Emergency services continue to work around the clock at the scene of the emergency, addressing the consequences of this crime.
The destruction of this unique religious monument occurred during a large-scale air raid on the Ukrainian capital, which claimed the lives of at least four people and left dozens of citizens injured.
The same attack caused a fire at the National Cultural, Art, and Museum Complex “Mystetskyi Arsenal,” where the flames spread over an area of approximately 1,000 square meters.
Official Kyiv emphasizes that the deliberate strike on the Lavra is an unforgivable assault on cultural and spiritual heritage of outstanding value to all of humanity.
The Ukrainian side demands that the international community take decisive action and immediately punish the aggressor state for the destruction of historical heritage.
The head of the Foreign Ministry called on international institutions to abandon a policy of mere concern and to apply real leverage on Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already begun preparing official appeals to relevant bodies to document this act of vandalism.
