Ukraine will not agree to lose territory, even if someone recognises it as Russian — Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine will not agree to any decisions that involve the loss of territorial sovereignty.
He made the remarks during a press interaction in Kyiv alongside Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“I am aware of a new signal suggesting that recognising certain Ukrainian territories, which are temporarily occupied, as Russian is being presented as one of the conditions for ending the war. Honestly, I don’t know who is sending these signals… but even if someone recognises our territories as Russian, it will achieve nothing,” Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State emphasised that Ukraine has a President, and it is he — not other leaders — who signs important documents.
“Therefore, our territories are ours, regardless of the fact that their current status is temporarily occupied,” Zelenskyy added.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also commented on Russia’s new conditions regarding the temporarily occupied Donbas, which Moscow is reportedly presenting as a precondition for ending the war against Ukraine.
At the latest round of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on 4 February, Russia set an additional condition for achieving peace: in addition to transferring control of Donbas, it demanded recognition of these territories as Russian.
