Ukraine handed over a prisoner named Hamlet to Russia as part of a prisoner exchange
During the latest prisoner exchange, Ukraine handed over an Armenian citizen named Hamlet to the Russian side.
According to reports, he ended up in the war not for ideological reasons, but after being held in a Russian detention center. The man had previously been convicted on drug-related charges, and this was to be his fifth prison term; after which he decided to sign up and go to the front.
This is discussed in a video from the “I Want to Live” project.
“I signed the contract quickly. I was just tired of sitting around; this was supposed to be my fifth time,” the mercenary said.
Hamlet’s military career was short-lived. Just three months in, he suffered shrapnel wounds after a Ukrainian drone attack and surrendered. “I got lucky,” Hamlet believes, since he managed to survive his encounter with the Ukrainian “bird.”
Despite his injuries, Hamlet’s priorities haven’t changed. When asked about his drug addiction, he honestly admits that he always wants to use “the stuff.” He also has no illusions about his future in Russia. The prisoner understands that law enforcement is waiting for him back home.
Hamlet does not rule out that after returning to a Russian prison, he will sign a contract again to secure his release.
