Ukraine urges the European Union to impose a lifetime entry ban on Russian military personnel
Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiga, has proposed a complete ban on entry to EU countries for all Russian citizens who have participated in armed aggression against Ukraine.
The head of the foreign ministry made the statement on his social media account X.
According to the diplomat, such a measure is critically important to ensure the long-term national security of European countries. He emphasised that allowing free access to Europe for individuals who have committed war crimes poses a direct threat to peaceful European citizens.
Sybiga argued that the presence of former combatants from the aggressor side could destabilise the internal situation in EU countries. The minister highlighted the need to protect democratic societies from the influence and presence of “Russian bandits” with combat experience in an aggressive war.
It is worth noting that Minister Sybiga also called for a personal meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. Kyiv is reportedly counting on the mediation of Donald Trump to bring the war to a swift conclusion, aiming to secure progress before the start of the US Congressional election campaign.
